About Us
The History of Teras Interventions and Counseling
Teras Interventions and Counseling is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to social justice through accessible, culturally informed counseling and social services in Multnomah County and beyond. Our top priority is ensuring safety for adults and children at risk of abuse.
Established in 2008, our Domestic Violence Intervention Program evolved from a sole proprietor business to a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2009. We offer mandated and self-referred programs that prioritize victim safety without compromising their financial stability.
In 2010, we expanded to include an outpatient substance use disorder program, providing state-approved treatment for DUII, probation, and other court-mandated requirements as well as self referred individuals.
Our goal is to offer accessible, affordable, high-quality care to individuals in the Tri-County area and beyond.
We are designated tax-exempt under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Tax ID 26-4575033. Your contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
What does the word Teras mean?
At Teras, we understand that the journey to recovery from substance use can be both challenging and transformative. Our center’s name, “Teras,” comes from the ancient Greek word “τέρας” that means “wonder,” “miracle,” “monster,” or “portent.” This word captures the full experience of recovery – it can feel overwhelming, even scary, but also miraculous as you undergo a life-changing transformation.
We believe that, like those ancient wonders, recovery is possible for anyone who is ready to embrace the change process. With the right support, you can break free from destructive habits and find healing. At Teras, we are here to help you through every step of this journey.
